Integration Lead – Mulesoft

Its technology team supports a complex enterprise landscape spanning SAP, cloud platforms and many business-critical systems. It is now investing in modernising its enterprise integration capability. Purpose of the role
As Technical Lead, you will be the technical authority for the organisation’s MuleSoft integration platform. You will set the standards, patterns and governance that make integrations robust, secure, scalable and maintainable, and lead the platform’s modernisation. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will still design and build, while guiding and mentoring integration engineers and working closely with architecture, delivery and product teams to make sure solutions are technically sound and aligned with business goals.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, making sure design decisions align with engineering standards and architectural guardrails
- Design scalable, reusable API-led connectivity solutions across system, process and experience layers
- Define and enforce integration standards, design patterns and reusable assets
- Lead API governance and lifecycle management, including design standards, security policies, versioning, publishing and retirement
- Lead technical design reviews and provide hands-on support during build and implementation
- Drive integration platform modernisation and continuous improvement of tools, processes and practices
- Champion modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automation, infrastructure as code and observability
- Coach and mentor integration engineers to uplift capability and confident technical decision-making
- Ensure high-quality, well-documented code and designs through active review and contribution
- Identify and manage technical risks, including security vulnerabilities, scalability constraints and technical debt
- Act as the escalation point for complex integration issues and oversee the stable, reliable operation of integrations in production
- Collaborate with Agile Release Train leadership, cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to ensure delivery feasibility and alignment with product objectives
Skills and experience
- 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including demonstrated leadership in technical design and delivery
- Deep, hands-on MuleSoft Anypoint Platform experience in an enterprise environment
- Strong track record designing API-led architectures and establishing integration standards and patterns
- Experience with API governance, API management and lifecycle practices
- Experience building and improving CI/CD pipelines and automation for integration deployments
- Sound understanding of secure, scalable integration design, including error handling, reliability and monitoring
- Proven ability to make sound technical decisions in complex enterprise environments
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively and facilitate cross-functional discussions
- Experience mentoring or coaching engineers
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Desirable
- SAP Integration Suite or other SAP integration experience
- MuleSoft certifications (Developer, Integration Architect or Platform Architect)
- Experience with SAFe or other scaled Agile frameworks
- Public sector or large, multi-stakeholder enterprise experience
